Taxi / Private Transfer

The most convenient option. Official taxi ranks are outside the arrivals terminal. Always confirm the fare before getting in, or use a metered taxi. Pre-booked private transfers cost more but remove the hassle of negotiating.

“Great location and a really practical base for exploring the area. We could get to everything we wanted to see without any hassle. The neighbourhood felt safe and had plenty of places to eat nearby.”

Public Transport

Check locally for bus or train connections from the airport. These are the cheapest option but take longer and may require changes. Not ideal if you’re arriving with heavy luggage or late at night.

Hotel Transfer

Hotel Celi may offer airport transfers — contact them directly to arrange. Hotel transfers are usually a fixed price with no surprises.

Dabolim vs Mopa: Which Airport Are You Flying Into

Goa has two airports. Dabolim (GOI) is the older one near Vasco da Gama in South Goa, 29 km from Panaji. Manohar International at Mopa (GOX) opened in 2023 in Pernem district, North Goa, and is roughly 35 km from Calangute.

If your hotel is in Calangute, Baga, Anjuna or Arambol, Mopa is closer (45 to 60 minutes by taxi). For stays in Palolem, Cavelossim or Benaulim, Dabolim is the faster drop. Check your airline booking carefully, as the two codes look similar.

Pre-Paid Taxis and Goa Miles

Both airports have pre-paid taxi counters immediately outside arrivals. Fares are fixed by zone and shown on a board. Mopa to Calangute runs roughly INR 1,400 to 1,800. Dabolim to Calangute is about INR 1,200 to 1,500. Pay at the counter and get a slip.

Goa Miles, the state-backed ride-hail app, often comes in 15 to 30 percent cheaper once you are inside the arrivals hall. It works at both airports, takes cards and UPI, and avoids the taxi-union queue, which can get long at peak arrival times.

Konkan Railway as a Back-Up

If you are coming from Mumbai, Pune or Mangalore, Konkan Railway is worth considering over a flight. Madgaon Junction is the main South Goa stop and Thivim is the North Goa stop closest to Calangute, about 40 minutes by taxi.

The overnight Tejas, Konkankanya and Mandovi services all run the route. AC 3-tier fares from Mumbai sit around INR 1,500, and SL class drops closer to INR 500. Book two to four weeks ahead in peak December for a chance at confirmed berths.

Buses and Private Transfers

Kadamba Transport (KTC) and private operators run Volvo sleepers between Goa, Mumbai and Bangalore nightly. Fares run INR 1,200 to 2,500 depending on season and class. Most arrive at Mapusa or Panaji, 30 to 45 minutes from Calangute.

Hotel transfers booked through a property usually cost 20 to 40 percent more than pre-paid or Goa Miles, but they show a name board at arrivals and handle late-night flights without drama. Worth it if you land after midnight or travel with kids.

What to Expect Inside Mopa and Dabolim

Mopa (GOX) opened in 2023 and is the newer, bigger facility, with international arrivals, retail and food courts. Immigration queues at peak December landings can take 45 to 75 minutes. Prepaid SIM kiosks from Jio and Airtel are inside baggage claim.

Dabolim (GOI) is compact and faster to exit, usually 20 to 30 minutes from plane door to taxi. It is a shared civilian-naval airfield, which is why there are hour gaps in the schedule during military use. Food options are basic, so eat before you land.

Scooter Pickup From the Airport

Neither airport has scooter rental counters in the terminal. The cheap play is to taxi to your hotel or to Mapusa, then hire a scooter there from INR 400 to 600 per day. Some North Goa hotels will arrange scooter delivery to the door for INR 100 extra.

Skip anyone at the arrivals exit offering “scooter to your door” without a shop address. The reliable operators are Facebook-reviewed Calangute and Anjuna rental shops with storefronts you can go back to if the bike fails.

Late Night and Early Morning Arrivals

If your flight lands between midnight and 6am, pre-arrange a transfer with your hotel or book a Goa Miles in advance. Prepaid taxi counters operate 24/7 at both airports but can have short queues for the 2am wave.

For a 5am or 6am departure, leave Calangute at 3am for Mopa or 3:30am for Dabolim. Roads are empty but toll gates still run, and there is no traffic bunching for 75 minutes of what would be a midday 90-plus-minute run.
